Commercial Lines Underwriter

We offer a wide range of general insurance business and health insurance products from our Head Office in Ta’ Xbiex and throughout our well-supported Branch and Tied Insurance Intermediary network around Malta and Gozo.

A vacancy has arisen within our Commercial Lines Department and we are looking to recruit an experienced Commercial Lines Underwriter to join our dynamic team, reporting directly to the area Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite and process renewal policies on all classes of Commercial Lines products ;
  • Apply knowledge of coverage, rating plans and guidelines in selection and pricing of individual risks and change requests;
  • Ensure adequate pricing through proper classification, accuracy of information and adherence to company underwriting standards and philosophies;
  • Support underwriting decisions on all other accounts through file preparation and documentation by gathering information and analysing and evaluating risk exposure;
  • Manage cover requests and communicate directly with the sales distribution or clients to gather needed information;
  • Research and gather needed information on coverage questions, state issues, workflows, and refer to underwriter and team leader when necessary;
  • Act as a resource to junior colleagues, by helping them  to strengthen their processing skills and assist with processing rating work as needed;
  • Handle special projects and assignments as directed by the area Manager.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Working towards a Diploma Level in Insurance
  • A good knowledge of the Maltese insurance and business environment;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft® Word, Excel and Outlook is preferred.

  • The ability to multitask and the ability to prioritize work;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • The ability to work independently and proactively in an orderly and timely manner;

IT System Administrator

Job Description

At Elmo Insurance, we rely on our IT systems to help our business reach and succeed with clients. We’re seeking an experienced systems administrator who is eager to use and grow his or her technological knowledge. In this role, the successful individual will protect our critical information, systems, and assets, build solutions, implement new software and hardware, provide training, and assist in the development of an overall IT strategy.

From early on, you’ll be given challenging assignments, lead initiatives, and take ownership and responsibility. Our ideal candidate will be passionate about applying their skills to technology-based business. 

 

Objectives of this Role

  • Maintain essential IT operations, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, email systems, laptops, desktops, software, and hardware
  • Own projects, solutions, and key responsibilities within a larger business initiative
  • Handle business-critical IT tasks and systems
  • Enable faster and smarter business processes and implement analytics for meaningful insights
  • Nurture dependable IT infrastructure and networking that’s always up and running
  • Partner with internal and external partners to communicate project status, activities, and achievements

 

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

  • Perform server administration tasks, including user/group administration, security permissions, group policies, print services, research event log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring, ensuring system architecture components work together seamlessly
  • Monitor datacenter health using preexisting management tools and respond to hardware issues as they arise; help build, test, and maintain new servers as needed
  • Maintain internal infrastructure requirements including, laptop and desktop computers, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, printers, phones, security updates; support internet, intranet, LANs, WANs, and network segments
  • Interact with the help desk and other teams to assist in troubleshooting, identify root cause, and provide technical support when needed
  • Perform routine/scheduled audits of the systems, including all backups

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in technology or computer science 
  • Minimum 3 years work experience in IT
  • Experience with or knowledge of operating systems; current equipment and technologies, enterprise backup and recovery procedures, system performance-monitoring tools, active directories, virtualization, HTTP traffic, content delivery, and caching
  • Experience in project management, application design and integration, and cloud computing (specifically Microsoft Azure)
  • Creating volumes, assigning to servers and remote replication

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Windows and Unix system administration 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365
  • Knowledge of VMware
  • Professional certifications

The company is expanding its operations to meet the demands of its growing product lines and customer base. As a result, we are looking for a Personal Lines Underwriting Officer to join our Personal Lines Underwriting Department.

Responsibilities:

  • Dealing with customers (face-to-face, via email, and over the phone).
  • Responding to queries and explaining products and services to clients.
  • General office duties.
  • Obtaining, handling, and processing of customer documentation.
  • Issuing of Home, Travel, Personal Accident, Marine Hull and Marine Cargo quotations, policies, and renewals.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Preferably, a related insurance qualification (or part qualification).
  • Previous experience within the local insurance industry.

 

Skills:

  • Sense of responsibility, accountability, and ownership.
  • Ability to handle various customer types.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in English & Maltese.

Motor Underwriting Officer

The company is expanding its operations to meet the demands of its growing product lines and customer base. As a result, we are looking for a Motor Underwriting Officer to join our Motor Underwriting Department, operating from both its Head Office and various Branches.

Responsibilities:

  •  Dealing with customers (face-to-face, via email, and over the phone).
  • Responding to queries and explaining products and services to clients.
  • General office duties.
  • Obtaining, handling, and processing of customer documentation.
  • Branch support and relieving.
  • Issuing of motor quotations, policies, and renewals.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Preferably, a related insurance qualification (or part qualification).
  • Previous experience within the local insurance industry would be considered an asset.

 

Skills:

  • Sense of responsibility, accountability, and ownership.
  • Ability to handle various customer types.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in English & Maltese.
