Boat FAQs

A nautical licence is obligatory for drivers of all mechanically driven craft having engine/s output of 30HP and over.

The speed limit for all crafts is 10 knots as follows:

  • Within 200 meters from rocky shores
  • Within 300 meters from sandy beaches in all ports
  • The speed limit in marinas is of 3 knots

It is important to maintain a safe speed at all times.

The value to be insured should represent the actual market value.

Yes, but it will have to be immobilised.

Whilst the craft is in transit on land, cover applies against accidental damage.

All documents in conformity with nautical requirements:

  • copy of insurance document in force
  • copy of registration document in force
  • copy of valid nautical license (if required)
  • safety equipment

For S-registered crafts, the renewal of the insurance should be done first and it needs to be presented to Transport Malta.
